The National Council of Nonprofit Associations and the Nonprofit Congress have recently launched a blog on staff and guest bloggers thoughts and feelings about the nonprofit sector. It looks pretty interesting and various topics are covered including accountability, leadership, civic engagement, policy, legislation, technology, media, marketing, advocacy, voter engagement, compensation, research and much, much more.
Check out excerpts from a few posts:
From Audrey’s Blog, Audrey’s Musings (A-Musings): “It has taken a while to institute and follow quality control procedures in our organization in general. However, to be relevant and timely, a blog can’t wait for the steps of write, rewrite, edit, and rewrite again. How then does it fit into our organization’s professional culture?” Read more.
From Elisa’s Blog, When I Grow Up…: “This really concerns me because it points to lingering sexism and a ‘glass ceiling’ mentality in the sector. It’s a reflection on the lack of diversity of all types on boards and among the leadership that makes decisions on compensation levels. Its also an indication of the lack of relative importance of ‘women’s roles’ in the sector-as the administrative and program staff rather than the leaders and decision-makers.” Read more.
From Elizabeth’s Blog, The Nonprofit Nibble: “The point is, you need a balance of these nutrients to have a healthy organization. And this is where it gets tricky, because people aren’t like nutrients that you can manipulate at will. People need incentives to work or volunteer for nonprofits. So how do you attract the best people to the sector, or your organization?” Read more.
From Rick’s Blog, Soundtrack for the Sector: “This blog will be dedicated to cutting through the clutter (and the acronyms) of nonprofit technology. You can expect to see real-world examples of tools you can implement quickly – with limited IT experience – and info on how these tools can help your organization.” Read more.

Perhaps the MNA should consider starting such a blog by nonprofit organization staffers to complement this one.
If a diverse mix of people were invited to contribute – from all types of Michigan nonprofits, at all levels and sizes of organizations, of different economic and cultural backgrounds, and from all geographic areas of the state – it could provide a solid collective of voices from the Michigan nonprofit community.
